Every evening, a scarlet tanager comes and sits at the top of this dead tree across the road from us. He comes and sings his heart out, serenading us while we enjoy dinner outside. It is one of our favorite parts of spring. His bright red coloring is his mating plumage, once he finds his mate and we head into summer, his coloring will fade into a dull gray green and he will be unrecognizable.
